Where does the subject of love fit into an inspirational magazine like Survivor Today? Should the subject be discussed only within the dating and relationship section? Or perhaps in the music section when playing gospel videos? Actually, the principle of love belongs everywhere within this magazine. Survivor Today Magazine is foremost a Christian magazine and since God is love (1 John 4:8) it would be impossible not to discuss God without discussing love. Second, we want victory and since love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8) we would be foolish not to include love once again. And finally we need a powerful force able to disarm evil and darkness and there is only one thing able to do that and that is love. Besides, it is what each survivor longs for, feels is missing and wants in relationships and deep within – to be loved.
The survivor today faces serious issues around self- love. When love is missing or is disguised it can show up as domestic violence in relationships. When self-love is missing in personal health and wellness it may look like drug and alcohol abuse. And when love from family and friends is missing, it can be painful and can lead to loneliness and eventually depression. Without self-love the survivor today continues the cycle of pain and lives in fear, anxiety, shame, guilt and so remains silent.
What we are talking about within the pages of Survivor Today Magazine is more than just a psychological concept. We are speaking about the survivor’s decision to change a helpless attitude, alter a dangerous lifestyle, and to grow and move beyond the past. These things cannot be done with giving, receiving and believing in the power of God’s love.
